At Mooney Landscape and Design, we specialise in transforming outdoor spaces while maintaining their natural character. This recent garden transformation in County Down was a complex and intricate project, where the goal was to maximise usability while preserving the property’s mature, rustic charm.
Project Overview
The client wanted a functional yet timeless outdoor space, ensuring that every element worked harmoniously with the existing features. With careful material selection and expert craftsmanship, we achieved a seamless blend of traditional textures and modern usability.
Key Features of the Transformation
Dark Vietnamese Granite Step Risers – These sleek yet durable risers frame the space beautifully, adding contrast while ensuring longevity and a refined finish.
Grey Sandstone Paving & Reused Tegula Paving – The main hardscape features grey sandstone paving, providing a natural yet contemporary feel. Additionally, reclaimed Tegula paving was repurposed to create a small third-tier seating area, perfect for enjoying the evening sun.
Liscannor Cladding & Dry Stone Walling – To enhance the rustic aesthetic, we used Liscannor stone cladding along the small front wall, complementing a dry stone wall previously built in the side garden. This combination enhances the property’s character while maintaining a cohesive look.
Portuguese Laurel Hedge – To soften the hard landscaping and provide natural privacy, a Portuguese laurel hedge was planted, adding structure and year-round greenery.
The Final Result
The finished garden is a perfect blend of usability and rustic elegance, making the most of the available space while preserving the natural, mature feel of the surroundings. The combination of granite steps, sandstone paving, stone cladding, and lush planting creates a timeless outdoor retreat, ideal for relaxation and entertaining.
